Reflection on Experience at Naperville North:
The relationships that I have created during my time at Naperville North with teammates, coaches, teachers, and classmates have shaped who I am today. Many of my highlights from Naperville North have come from being a part of the XC and Track and Field teams. The perseverance, strength, and belief that this sport requires has brought together an amazing community of people who work together and push one another to become the best version of themselves, and I was lucky enough to be a part of it. From late night bus rides back from meets, to team meetings and overnight trips, each experience has taught me valuable skills such as how to be strong even in weakness and how impactful it is to be a part of true team culture. Likewise, being a member of the club No Strings Attached during my time at Naperville North has shaped who I am today as it allowed me to connect with people I may not have had the chance to connect with otherwise. This conversation club anchored me in the moment, allowing me to connect with others each week by reflecting on our experiences and world around us.
Impact of the RAK Scholarship:
I am honored to have received the RAK scholarship, but more importantly to join the RAK family. Hearing stories about Rob through his family, friends, and teammates has been awe-inspiring as the community he created continues to grow and impact others to this day. After getting to know more people in the RAK family and foundation I realize that even though people may go their own ways, community is a powerful force that keeps us together and will never go away. The spirit, empowerment, and love I have felt from the RAK community is something I will bring with me wherever I go. When you have kind, genuine, good people rooting you on, you can be so much stronger than you ever felt was possible. I hope to be one of these people for others and create new communities through Rob’s light.
